I'm on season 6 of Tyler Perry's Sistas, but I can, oddly enough, tell you everything that has happened in each of the characters' lives. Word for word. Season after season, I've kept tabs on Andi, Danni, Karen, Sabrina, and Fatima like they are a part of my squad. Like they are family.
Each girl has their issues to deal with. Boy problems, mostly. But they face them together and never judge one another for being human. I love these women so much that I cried my eyeballs out when Karen was thought to have died in a fire. She was very much alive, of course, but the mere thought of it, ah, it was so excruciatingly painful, man, because of how integral Karen and her sister's circle is to the show.
If you haven't watched Sistas, or are a fan, read on for a review about the show. Who knows, you may grow to keep tabs on all new episodes, binge-watching them as soon as they hit the big screen.
Women and Compromising
Andi said something that stuck with me deeply. She said that women have the ability to put up with anything just to feel something or words pertaining to that. See, Andi has been with Gary since the show began. Controlling. Manipulative. Smart. That's Gary.
But Andi can't ever seem to let go of Gary. She always comes back to him, or vice versa. The sister circle already agrees Gary is bad for her. Yet, she can never seem to end it permanently.
Women and Hoping
Then there's Karen. I would think that unless you're head over heels for a guy, you shouldn't have any business dating them. But Karen has been leading Aaron on for ages. Why? Because Aaron is a nice guy. She has told him that she loves Zach, her ex. But Aaron doesn't mind. So, it's also kind of Aaron's fault for sticking around. Still, I don't see Karen and Aaron ever truly, being in love. Because, well, Karen's heart has always been elsewhere.
Women and Praying
Danni, on the other hand, loves Preston, a white country guy who's made it clear he loves her too. But Danni is scared to go all in. Because they're of different races. Because Preston is the whitest guy ever. He's country. He doesn't know anything about Black culture, even asking Danni to teach him. How can you teach culture?
I understand, Danni. Even when she turns Preston down over and over again. I feel I have done the same in the past, simply because of feeling like I'd never be able to truly connect with someone. Because connection comes from culture, from shared similarities in art, lifestyle, music, etc. That's why during high school functions, a boy would ask you what kind of music you listen to, so you can bond over something innate.
But they love each other. So they keep trying. Praying that, somehow, they'll learn to love each other's backgrounds and live within each other's culture. Because none of them can give up something as innate as the colour of their skin.
Women and Uncertainty
I saved the best for the second last. Sabrina's story. On one night of passion, Sabrina's boyfriend asks her to use an asshole vibrator on him. That's gay, no? She asks. Are you gay? He says adamantly, no, I'm not. In fact, he's furious with her for even thinking that.
The same guy would wear panties or something like that. Because he was raised by two gay dads who taught him that people can dress in whatever way they want. Boys can play with Barbie dolls. That kind of thing.
It doesn't sit well with Sabrina at all. So, she asks to break up. But Calvin, the guy, remains deeply in love with Sabrina. While Sabrina, the girl, of course, continues to wonder whether she can be okay dating Calvin as he is. I ought to say that Sabrina's type is masculine energy. Tall, dark, handsome, you know the works. But as Andi said, women can put up with anything just to feel something, so she might consider compromising, hoping, and praying Calvin is the one. We'll see.
Women and Past Aggressions
I've put Fatima and Zach's story separately. There's even a new show about these two called Zatima because, technically, Fatima isn't in the sister circle, and her relationship with Zach is kind of non-traditional.
I find women carry past aggressions more deeply than men. Especially into their next relationships, that if your ex cheated on you, you're likely to be more on edge. Or if they were violent, you're likely to be on high alert for that sort of thing.
Fatima loves Zach dearly. But Zach has a history of sleeping around. So, she constantly worries about him cheating and even tells him over and over to keep it in his pants. It's almost all their relationship revolves around to the point that it takes a toll on their love story.
